Welcome To Gorsty Fisheries

Our main pool and the specimen pool are renowned for big carp and we cater for both match fishermen and pleasure anglers alike. The main pool is suitable for all, as there is a roadway access down one side of the lake and there is a gentle slope down to the waters edge.

Gorsty lake is an ancient natural water which  has a good head of double-figure fish. The specimen pool is a smaller but deeper lake. It has just been re-stocked and now has over 200 carp from 7Lbs to 24Lbs with 2 in excess of 30lbs.

The main lake has a variety of smaller species including bream up to 4lbs, crucians, tench, roach and rudd, and perch and of course carp up to about 20Lbs.

  • The Health Of Our Stock I am pleased to tell you that the lake is open as normal. The results from CEFAS show that we have a mild strain of KHV. The good news is that we have only lost 60 fish and this is the truth. No doubt there is a lot of various rumours going around. We have the welfare of the fishery at heart. We have been here for 45 years and we have addressed the problem in a sensible manner working with CEFAS / DEFRA.All anglers must dip nets on arrival and leaving.

  • Gorsty Re-stocked We have recently netted and restocked the specimen pool. This now contains 200 carp ranging in size from 7Lbs to 24Lbs and two fish in excess of 30Lbs. We took this opportunity to net out as many of the smaller fish as possible. We have removed several 2Lbs + perch and among the smaller fish were some roach up to one pound and quite a few rudd. For the summer season, gates are open at 7AM and are locked up again at dusk or 9PM whichever is earlier.

Rules

Don't take the risk of having to take the walk of shame and don't make the mistake that we don't send people home for breaking rules - 10 people were banned for life last year for breaking our rules. Three people were caught without licences by the Inland Waterways and had to pay £1000 fine.

To avoid 'mistakes' check up on our rules before you come and make sure you come equipped with legal tackle. We have zero tolerance on offences like OPEN FIRES, LITTER and BARBED HOOKS. No second chances. Spot checks take place continually around the year, without exception, whether regular or occasional visitor, everyone is scrutinised the same.

If in doubt - ask first.
